The Regional Environmental Hub is based at the U.S.
Embassy in Amman to cover issues of water and the environment throughout
the Middle East on behalf of the U.S. Government. The Hub focuses
particularly on fostering cooperative solutions to transboundary problems
including, for example, those arising within the context of the Middle
East Peace Process. To further these goals the Hub works closely
with U.S. Embassies, Consulates and USAID Missions in the region, as well
as with a wide range of government agencies, nongovernmental organizations,
academia, business, and private citizens, both U.S. and regional.
Devised by former Secretary of State Warren Christopher as part of his
environmental initiative, the Amman Hub has been in operation since 1997.
Its current Director is Mr. Paul R. Malik..
